Rite of Reclamation

Pulled out from the corpse, a life’s end
Housed in clay, the mourning begins
A watchful eye must be kept to defend
For nine days lest to evil death is sent
Grateful in grief
Beautiful deceased
Returning in a
Grave-led heaven hold
Reclaim the soul
Reclaim the grave all were born in
The year has passed, wailing still remains
This spirit honored as an old friend
From dark tides the essence sent away
Back to where all life begins and ends
Grateful in grief
Beautiful deceased
Returning in a
Grave-led heaven hold
Reclaim the soul
Reclaim the grave all were born in
All this to know
What death will hold
With a life now gone
On its way back home
Grave-led heaven hold

Return to Detritus

My journey has ended asunder
By water’s pure refrain
The sun hangs, beckoning sweetly
But I’m torn, stuck in between
The worms wait, starving and humble
A mound built for me to lay
An unending blue above me
At the end of my final day
When my weary legs defy, I will kneel screaming,
“I do deny the sky,” the river’s edge yearning, pleading
Angry clouds spit upon me
Shadowed depths growing
The storm sprouts longing fingers
The earth reaches for me
“This choice is mine to bear,” the heaven’s retreating
“I do belong down here, beneath myself,” the soil breeding
Now the cypress blocks all light
And I claim this ruin as mine
The cycle onward goes
Now I’m basking in the lows
Float
Sink
Feel
Nothing
The cradle teeters
And falls into the flood
What could have been is right now
And now I am everything

Skunk Ape

Skunk ape rising
Up into the trees
Waiting, hiding
In a palace made of leaves
Always knowing, never showing
Rarely to be seen, seen
Her stink, her steps
All we know of
This creature’s being
She’ll never be found
She doesn’t think she wants to be
But we know she’s there
Hiding, fighting
This urge to be discovered
Leaving clues beneath the bashed roots
At her feet
Mysteries, passed down stories
The tale of her long journey
All she cares to tell
Before solitary retreat
Now the skunk ape
Stalks the psyche,
Taunts the lonely,
The misguided,
In her waters
Shallow and hungry
A feeding frenzy,
Muddy, lithe, and
Drowning curious insight
The monster slithers
Inside you and me

Flame and spear piercing through the night
Black eyes scream fear, shining in the light
Routing trumpet trunks signal retreat
Soft earth, slowing, swallowing their feet
Hunger pulsing, drooling for fresh meat
Cliffside calling, falling towards defeat
Landslide, colliding with the earth
Bones broken along with their spirits
Final breaths escape, let of their blood
No escape in sight
From the hook end’s bite
This is no fight
This is human right
But betray our Mother
And our Mother will hunt you back
No more the hunted
The prey becomes the hunter
Tusks rip through man’s flesh
Primal vengeance victorious
Crushed, buried
Mammoth escapes
Settled anew
At mercy of Mother’s fate
Settle
Ice
Melts
Thirst
Drink
Salt
Sleep
Extinct

The Wendigo

Down beneath the woodland’s crown
The breath of the swamp blows
Silence begets a lonely hold
Burned into the ground
Seduced by the wild’s call
The spirit beckoning
Confessions of fear and doubt
The only comfort here
The forest’s legend calls out
By name, the victim hears
Paranoid slumber comes
But only through his tears
He calls back into the void
And then he disappears
Lie to me
Lie with me
Make me feel
Comforting
Lead me away
Into the trees
Burn my feet
Carry me
We are one
We are one
We are one
We are one
“For the Panic of the Wilderness had called to him that far voice- The Power of untamed Distance- The Enticement of the Desolation that destroys. He knew in that moment all of the pains of someone hopelessly and irretrievable lost, suffering the lust and travail of a soul in the final Loneliness. A vision of Defago, eternally hunted…”
The odor of lions eating away
All hopes of sanity
Now he returns without a face
Our guide returning from the trees
“Oh, my feet of fire
Oh, my burning feet of fire
Oh, this height and fiery speed…
A reg’lar hell-fire of a trip.”
